Twisted Beautiful You
I have been dying to try a twisted pop-up card for a long time, and then I saw someone make it with the Beautiful You stamp set and my heart just sang. It was time to head over to Splitcoast Stampers to find a tutorial and get started. It was surprisingly easy. The only wrong twist I made was when I got it assembled and opened it up, the ladies were upside down. Took it apart and fixed it in a jiffy.
I love paper piecing with the Beautiful You girls. It reminds me of making paper dolls when I was a girl. Yes, I had the store bought paper dolls, but as I got older there was the Betsy McCall you got to cut out of mom's McCall's magazine each month, but with 3 sisters I only got to cut them once every few months. So, I started cutting paper dolls out of catalogs. Well, actually I would draw dolls and cut out dresses and accessories. So for this card my dresses were inspired by Curtain Call's Inspirational Challenge #58. I used Festive Party DSP for the perfect colors for the challenge. I have to admit I strayed a little from the colors. I had a Calypso Coral Card all cut, but accidently grabbed a Melon Mambo card when I was gluing the front, so I had to go with Melon Mambo for the rest of the card. Phewy! Hate when I screw up, but in this case, it's pretty. I did get the colors right on the card front, where I found this great layout at Match The Sketch Challenge 168. It reminds me of sketches for a dress designer. I added a little Metallic Ribbon and some rhinestone accents to bling up this card.
After I got my Beautiful ladies dressed, I gave them a little watercolor wash to give them some grounding with just a light wash of Smoky Slate. Did you notice the belle on the right? I stamped the top of the lady with the umbrella, masking her below the waist. I then drew a long full skirt for a dramatic party dress. I got my inspiration from Cheryl Algie who did a beautiful series of cards using all the different designer series papers. I am going to share my card on one more challenge at Just Add Ink #351 where they said to Just Add "L", and I think my LADIES will apply.
Hope you like this project, and stop back again to see my work.
Imagine the marvelous possibilities and what I will create tomorrow.
